ROCHESTER, NY – Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough)
broke a 1-1 tie with a goal in the 49th minute, lifting RIT to a 2-1 win over John Carroll in the opening round of the 2007 Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament at RIT Field on Saturday morning.

Traversi took a long feed from Morgan Eastlack (Albion, NY/Albion) (Albion, NY/Albion) and beat the John Carroll goalkeeper to the loose ball just outside the box. Traversi then ripped a shot just inside the right goal post for her first goal of the year.

The Tiger defense was strong, holding John Carroll to just five shots. RIT out-shot the Blue Streaks 15-5.

The Tigers struck first in the 16th minute, as Erica Main (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) tapped home a rebound off a corner kick from Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY/Marion). Adriaansen's cross was perfectly placed to the right side of the John Carroll net, where Main was able to have position on her defender and score.

John Carroll struck back just three minutes later, as Elizabeth Daigler put in her own rebound after RIT goalkeeper Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH/Canfield) made a diving save on the initial breakaway attempt.

Eastlackand Amanda Sisti (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) each had good scoring chances later in the half, but were denied by John Carroll goalkeeper Michelle Zrebiec.

Conti made two saves in the win for RIT. Zrebiec stopped nine shots for John Carroll.

In the second Rachel Miller first round game, Wilmington defeated Allegheny College 2-1.  Wilmington outshot Allegheny 19-5.
