ROCHESTER, NY – Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the 10
th inning, giving RIT a dramatic, come-from-behind 8-7 win over #20 SUNY Brockport on Monday afternoon at sunny RIT Field. The Tigers have now won nine straight and are 18-7 in 2007.
Andrew Larsen (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) and
Dan Christner (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) led off the 10
th inning with back-to-back singles.
Ryan Campbell (Brockport, NY/Brockport) (Brockport, NY/Brockport) sacrificed both runners over and
Anthony Culotta (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) was intentionally walked
Ryan Tryt (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) tied the game at 7 with a two-out, three-run home run to right field in the bottom of the ninth inning.
Tim Wilson gave SUNY Brockport the lead, snapping a 4-4 tie in the top of the ninth inning with a RBI double. RIT led 4-1 going into the eighth inning, but the Golden Eagles scored three runs on three hits and a walk of RIT starter
Dylan Rees (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) to tie the game.
Brent Nicholson drove in a pair of runs two batters later to make it 7-4.
RIT got on the board first with a pair of third inning runs. With runners on first and third and one out,
Matt George (Walton, NY/Walton) (Walton, NY/Walton) stole his 17
th base of the year. The throw to second bounced into the outfield, causing Campbell to score and George to advance to third. Dornes promptly singled into centerfield, scoring George.
The Golden Eagles came right back with a run on three hits in the fifth. SUNY Brockport had runners on second and third with one out, but a botched squeeze play and a ground out ended the threat.
RIT pulled ahead 4-1 with a pair of runs set up by three SUNY Brockport errors. With runners on first and second, George beat out a perfect bunt down the first base line. The ball was thrown away into right field, allowing Christner
to score. Two batters later,
Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) (Spenceport, NY/Spencerport) drove in the fourth run on a fielders choice.
The Golden Eagles tied the game with three runs in the top of the eighth on three hits and a walk.
Nicholson was 4 for 5 with a run scored and three RBI for SUNY Brockport (23-13). Anthony Shallo was 3 for 4 with a pair of runs scored, while Mark Caruana had two hits and a RBI.
SUNY Brockport made five errors.
SUNY Brockport out-hit RIT 13-12.
George needs just one stolen base to tie the RIT single-season record for most steals in a season. Dornes had three hits and a RBI, while George recorded two hits for the Tigers.
Chad Hendy (Roseburg, OR/Glide) picked up the win in relief for the Tigers. Rees allowed all seven runs, four earned in 8 2/3 innings.
The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, as they host Keuka College in a doubleheader at RIT Field. First pitch is at 2 p.m.
