ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's tennis team defeated the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets on Tuesday evening by a score of 5-4. It was the first win over U of R in the history of the RIT men's tennis program. The Tigers increased their record to 2-2 (0-2 Empire 8) while the Yellow Jackets are 0-6.

The match started out with singles with wins from freshman, Gean Yip (Palo Alto, CA/Gunn) (Palo Alto, CA/Gunn), junior, Joe Schember (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) (Erie, Pa/Mercyhurst Prep), and senior Tom Fountain (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego, NY/Oswego) at third, fifth, and singles singles, respectively. Freshman, John Traver (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendahowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendahowa) lost a close match at fourth singles in three sets, 7-5, 6-3, 7-5.

In doubles action the second and third doubles teams clenched the victory for the Tigers. Han Chong (Penang, Malaysia/Penang Free School) (Penang, Malaysia/Penang Free School) and Yip defeated their opponents 8-1 and third doubles team of Fountain and Traver won 8-2.

The Tigers host Saint John Fisher College on Thursday, April 5th at 4 pm.
