ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT baseball team (17-7) ran its winning streak to eight games after sweeping Hilbert College in a doubleheader on a sunny Sunday afternoon at RIT Field. RIT won game one 10-1 and took game two 9-3.
In game one, the Tigers pounded 14 hits, scoring four first inning runs and adding five more in the sixth to cruise to the win.
Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) was 3 for 3 with a double and four RBI. Matt George (Walton, NY/Walton) (Walton, NY/Walton) stole three bases, while Andrew Larsen (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) and Anthony Culotta (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) each had two hits and two RBI.
Senior Pat Walters (Rochester, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY/Webster) improved to 4-0 in 2007, allowing just a single run on five hits, going the distance for RIT.
In game two, RIT once again got off to a fast start, scoring three times in the first and five times in the the third to build an 8-0 lead.
Senior Brian Lindenau (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) was 4 for 4 with three stolen bases, two runs scored an a RBI. George and Larsen each drove in two runs.
Freshman Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) had two hits and scored two runs. He also picked up the win on the mound, allowing three unearned runs and striking out a season-high nine batters in six innings. Paul Schoeneck (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) (Syracuse, NY/West Genesee) pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Hilbert is 5-23.
The Tigers will look to extend their winning streak to nine games, as they host SUNY Brockport on Monday afternoon in a single nine-inning game starting at 4:15 p.m.
