ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT softball team ended the 2007 regular season with by losing both ends of a doubleheader to SUNY Geneseo on a cold, damp Saturday afternoon at RIT Field. SUNY Geneseo took game one 8-4 and game two by a score of 7-2.
RIT ends the regular season with a 13-21 record, while SUNY Geneseo improves to 19-16.
In game one, the Tigers recorded 11 hits, but SUNY Geneseo ripped three home runs to earn the 8-4 win.
RIT got on the board first, as
Jenna Kilroy (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) (Albany, NY/Academy of the Holy Names) ripped her second home run in two days and third of the season, a solo shot in the bottom of the second inning
The Knights stormed back with six runs in the top of the fourth inning to go up 6-1. Audrey Kuhn and Sara Weisenborn each hit a two-run home run to do the bulk of the damage in the inning.
SUNY Geneseo scored twice more in the sixth to go up 8-1 on a solo home run by Jackie Davey and a RBI double by Kristen Newton.
Nikki Taylor (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego, NY/Oswego),
Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) and
Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) hit consecutive RBI singles in the bottom of the seventh to complete the scoring.
Taylor was 3 for 4, while Hanzlik was 2 for 4 and Kilroy finished 2 for 3.
In game two, SUNY Geneseo scored five runs in the first two innings to cruise to the win. Melissa Mason put the Knights up 5-0 with a two run home run off of RIT starter

RIT pitcher
Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan) threw a combined 7 2/3 innings of relief in the two games, allowing just a pair of runs. She threw 5 2/3 innings of relief in game two, not allowing an earned run. She also had three base hits in the two games.
SUNY Geneseo hurler Lindsey Norton picked up the win in game two, scattering eight hits over six innings of work.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, as they travel to Ithaca College to compete in the 2007 Empire 8 Tournament.
