CANTON, NY - The RIT baseball team got back on the winning track on Saturday afternoon, sweeping both ends of a doubleheader from host St. Lawrence. RIT won game one 10-4 and game two 7-5 to improve to 11-7 in 2007.
In game one, RIT jumped ahead with five runs in the top of the second inning and hung on from there.
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) was 3-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. Anthony Culotta (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) was 2-for-2 with a career-best three RBI and two runs scored. Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and Ryan Tryt (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) each had two hits in the contest. Scroger also drove in a pair of runs.
Senior hurler Pat Walters (Rochester, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY/Webster) improved to 3-0 in 2007, throwing a complete-game seven-hitter.
In game two, the Tigers jumped out to a 7-0, third-inning lead and held on from there.
Senior Dan Christner (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) was 3-for-3 with his first home run of the season, a double and two runs scored. Brian Lindenau (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI.
Dornes picked up his first collegiate win on the mound, allowing six hits and two earned run over 5 2/3 innings of work. Dylan Rees (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) earned his first save of the season, getting the final out with the tying run at the plate.
St. Lawrence falls to 12-7 in 2007.
The Tigers are right back in action on Sunday at Clarkson. Doubleheader action begins at 12 p.m.
