ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT men's tennis team hosted the Alfred University Saxons this afternoon. The Tigers got their second straight shut out beating the Saxons 9-0. This brings the Tigers record to 4-3 (2-3 Empire 8) and the Saxons record to 1-6 (1-4 Empire 8).
Freshman, Gean Yip (Palo Alto, CA/Gunn) (Palo Alto, CA/Gunn) won his fourth singles match in a row, beating John Reagan 6-0, 6-1 at third singles. Fellow freshman, John Traver (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendahowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendahowa) get his third straight win at fourth singles defeating Alex Weller 6-1, 6-0. Brennan Dugas (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) (East Falmouth, MA/Falmouth) got his first singles win of the season winning 6-1, 6-1 at first singles.
Yip also paired up with sophomore Han Chong (Penang, Malaysia/Penang Free School) (Penang, Malaysia/Penang Free School) at second doubles to beat their opponents 8-1. At first and third doubles, Jose Guzman (Guatemala/Collegio Valle Verde) (Guatemala/Collegio Valle Verde) and Dugas and Joe Schember (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) (Erie, PA/Mercyhurst Prep) and partner Alberto Lopez Samper (Zaragoza, Spain/O.L.M.) both won 8-4.
The Tigers travel next to Hobart on April 17th and play at 4pm.
