ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (8-4) fell for the second straight day to the University of Rochester, this time by a 2-0 score at the RIT Field on a cool, cloudy Wednesday afternoon.
RIT had the tying runs on base in the bottom of ninth inning with one out, but a pair of line drives hit right at the first baseman ended the rally.
Three Rochester pitchers combined on the shut-out. Michael Park earned the win, with five scoreless innings. Blair Veenema and John Fishback each twirled two innings of shutout ball to preserve the win, as Rochester improved to 14-6.
Starting pitcher
Geoff Dornes (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) (Landsville, PA/Hempfield) threw well, allowing just one earned run in five innings.
Pat Walters (Rochester, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY/Webster) tossed four scoreless innings in relief.
Andrew Larsen (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) (Seattle, WA/Roosevelt) was 2-for-3 and had an outfield assist for RIT.
Dan Christner (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) and
Ryan Tryt (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) also had hits for the Tigers.
The Yellowjackets scored a unearned run in the first and an earned run in the fifth to provide the scoring.
Andy Cannon and Ed Kahovec each had three hits for the Yellowjackets. Kahovec scored both runs.
Yesterday, the Yellowjackets defeated RIT 13-0 at the U of R.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, as they travel to Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher to play the Cardinals in a pair of doubleheaders.
