ALFRED, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team poured in nine first quarter goals and never looked back as they defeated Empire 8 rival Alfred University, 21-5 on Saturday afternoon. The win improves the second-ranked Tigers to 8-0 overall and 2-0 in the Empire 8.
John Foley (Arthur, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) (Arthur, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) improved to 8-0 on the season and tied a school record for career wins.
Scott Farress (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) (Webster, NY) scored all six of his goals in the first half to pace a potent RIT offense. RIT led 12-1 at the half and dominated face-offs, winning 14-of-15.
Wes Adam (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) (Lafayette, NY) and
Dave Demuth (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) each had two points in the first quarter. Adam had a pair of goals, while Demuth had a goal and an assist. Adam later added an assist.
Freshman
Sean Gillies (Oakville, ON/Albany Academy) (Oakville, ON/Albany Academy) had two goals and two assists in the second half and senior
Dan Jernick (Nutley, NJ/Nutley) (Nutley, NJ) added a goal and three assists.
Junior face-off specialist
Jacob Brunner (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) (Lafayette, NY) won 12 of the 13 face-offs he took, grabbed six ground balls and had a goal.
RIT will face Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher College on Saturday, April 7 at 1 pm on RIT Field.
