Men's Lacrosse Wins Season Opener at Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, MD -- The #4 RIT men's lacrosse team kicked off the 2007 campaign with a 15-10 win at #6 Washington College on Saturday afternoon. Eric Pritchard (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) (Webster, NY) led RIT with eight points on three goals and five assists.

The Tigers broke the game open in the second quarter, exploding for seven goals and led 10-5 at the half. Pritchard and Scott Farress (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) (Webster, NY) combined to score five of the Tigers seven goals.

RIT struck four times in the third quarter, leading 14-7 after three quarters of play. Farress scored three goals in the third quarter and Andy Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning, NY/Corning East) had the other.

Farress finished with six goals on the afternoon. Dave DeMuth (Jordan, NY/Jordan Elbridge) (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) had a goal and an assist and Stephen Papa (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) (Niskayuna, NY) had a pair of assists.

John Foley (Arthur, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) (Arthur, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) got the start in goal for the Tigers, allowing 10 goals and making 16 saves.

RIT dominated the face-offs, winning 19-of-24. Jacob Brunner (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) (Lafayette, NY) won 18-of-25 face-offs, grabbed a team-high 11 ground balls and added an assist.

RIT went 2-for-4 with the extra man and won the ground ball battle, 37-29.

RIT will face Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday, March 7 in Connecticut.
