Click For BoxscoreROCHESTER, NY -- The #2 RIT men's lacrosse team improved to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8 with a 17-4 victory over Elmira College (3-3, 0-1 E8) on Wednesday afternoon. The Tigers scored 12 unanswered goals to break the game open.
Elmira took a 1-0 lead early in the first quarter on a man-up goal from Sean Slater. RIT responded with a rifle shot from
Eric Pritchard (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) (Webster, NY), tying the score at 1-1.
After some sloppy play by both teams in the middle portion of the first quarter the Tigers ripped off three straight goals to finish off the quarter.
Scott Farress (Webster, NY/Webster Schroeder) (Webster, NY), Dan Rago (Geneva, NY) and
Stephen Papa (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) (Niskayuna, NY) each scored to give RIT a 4-1 lead after the first quarter.
The Tigers got the offense on track in the second quarter and extended their lead to 12-1 with eight goals.
Dave Demuth (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) and Farress each had two goals in the quarter. Pritchard added three goals and an assist.
Elmira got their second goal on another man-up goal from Mike Szpiech early in the third quarter. Demuth and
Rob Stojanov (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY) each scored on assists from Farress, extending RIT's lead to 14-2.
After a pair of Soaring Eagles goals made it 14-2 the Tigers responded with goals from
Brian McShea (Pittsford, NY/Rush-Henrietta), Gerry Ragonese (Berkeley Heights, NJ/Govenor Livingston) and
Craig Nairn (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY) making it 17-4. The goals from McShea, Ragonese and Nairn were their first collegiate goals.
RIT's defense was fabulous, allowing four goals.
John Foley (Arthur, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) (Arthur, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) got the start. He made five saves and allowed one goal.
Brad Conlon (Ottawa, ON/Bridgton Academy) (Ottawa, ON/Bridgton Academy) played the third quarter, allowed three goals and made four saves.
Jacob Brunner (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) (Lafayette, NY) won 15-of-17 face-offs and grabbed 10 ground balls.
Phil Davenport (New Market, MD/Linganore) (New Market, MC/Linanore) had a pair of assists and scooped up six ground balls.
The Tigers will face Alfred University on Saturday, March 31 in an Empire 8 contest. That game gets under way at 1 pm in Alfred, New York.
