ROCHESTER, NY – Four players scored in double figures, as the RIT men’s basketball team won its third straight game, defeating Nazareth 69-60 at the Clark Gym on Tuesday evening.
Rob Hampton (Ocala, FL/Belleview) (Ocala, FL/Belleview) led the way with 14 points and four blocks. He tallied 12 of his 14 points in the second half.
Tim Bacon (Massena. NY/Massena) (Massena, NY/Massena) just missed a double-double, as he tallied 12 points and nine rebounds.
Kenny Gethers (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) was 5 of 6 from the field en route to 11 points.
Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) scored all 10 of his points in the second half and added six rebounds.
Junior guard
Colin Roy (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) dished out a career-best 10 assists for RIT, who improved to 12-9 overall and 6-4 in the Empire 8.
Joe Canori led Nazareth (8-13, 3-7 Empire 8) with 24 points. Tyler Smith added 13 points.
RIT has now won 12 straight games against Nazareth, dating back to the 2002-03 season. The Tigers are 3-0 against Nazareth this season.
RIT shot 58 percent from the field in the second half and 50 percent overall. They out-rebounded Nazareth 39-35. Both teams combined to turn the ball over 42 times.
The Tigers led by as much as 11 in the first half, but Nazareth went on a late run to keep the RIT lead at five, 32-27.
Nazareth shot 54.5 percent in the half, but RIT dominated on the boards, grabbing 12 offensive rebounds and holding a 19-12 edge. The Tigers took 10 more shots over the opening 20 minutes. Both teams turned the ball over 12 times.
RIT is back in action on Friday, as they travel to Hartwick to play the Hawks in an Empire 8 contest. Tip-off is at 8 p.m.
