OSWEGO, NY - The RIT men's basketball team fell to #2 SUNY Oswego 74-63 in the ECAC Upstate quarterfinal on Wednesday evening. The loss ends the Tiger season. RIT finishes the 2006-07 season with a 14-13 mark.
The Tigers trailed 38-26 at the half, but closed to within one, 45-44 on a pair of free throws by Rob Hampton (Ocala, FL/Belleview) (Ocala, FL/Belleview) with 13:55 left. Kyle Rueter hit a 3-pointer on the ensuing possession and the Tigers would not get any closer.
Senior center Tim Bacon (Massena. NY/Massena) (Massena, NY/Massena), playing in his final collegiate game, led all players with 25 points and 14 rebounds. He shot 11 of 16 from the field.
Freshman forward Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) (Almond, NY/Hornell) recorded season-highs of 18 points and seven rebounds. Colin Roy (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) dished out six assists.
Rueter led the Lakers (16-12) with 21 points. Mat Burridge had 16 points and eight rebounds, while Tom Downey added 14 points and six assists.
RIT shot just 38 percent from the field and was 2-for-14 from 3-point range. The Tigers shot 13 of 28 (46.4 percent) from the foul line.
SUNY Oswego shot 40 percent from the field, but turned the ball over just eight times.
RIT finished 14-13 for the second straight season. They fell to the Lakers in the 2006 ECAC Upstate Tournament as well.
It is the 16th straight season that the Tigers have accomplished at least a .500 record.
