ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's hockey team completed the sweep of Air Force Academy with a 2-1 win over the Falcons on Saturday night. Simon Lambert (Ste.-Therese, PQ/Cumberland Grads)'s (Ste.-Therese, PQ) power play goal at 7:33 of the third proved to be the game-winner as the Tigers improved to 19-9-2 overall and 18-5-1 in the Atlantic Hockey Association.
After a scoreless first period the Falcons took a 1-0 lead at 6:50 of the second period on Matt Fairchild's fourth goal of the season.
Josh Schaffer threw the puck in front of the net on a rush and Fairchild poked the puck past Menard for a 1-0 lead.
The Falcons controlled the period until the final 21 seconds when Brennan Sarazin (Nepean, ON/Nepean Raiders) (Nepean, ON) tied the game on his seventh goal of the season.
Stevan Matic (Burnaby, BC/Langley Hornets) (Burnaby, BC) fed Sarazin in the slot and beat Peter Foster, tying the score at 1-1.
Louis Menard (Chicoutimi, PQ/Ottawa Jr. Senators) (Chicoutimi, PQ) kept RIT in the game with several big saves in the third period. Head Coach Wayne Wilson was very pleased with his effort.
At 7:33 of the third RIT tallied their lone power play goal of the night. Al Mazur (Burnaby, BC/Langley Hornets) (Burnaby, BC) ripped a slap shot from the point that Lambert tipped in past Foster, giving RIT their first lead of the game.
It was Lambert's 13th goal of the season.
Menard finished with 31 saves, as Air Force out shot RIT 32-28. RIT went 1-for-4 with the man-advantage and held the Falcons scoreless on five power play chances.
RIT now has 37 points in the AHA and remains in first place over Sacred Heart in the standings.
RIT will host Mercyhurst College next Friday at 7 pm at Ritter Arena.
