NEW YORK, NY -
The RIT volleyball team finished third at the 2007 NYSWCAA Championship held on the campus of New York University over the weekend.  The top-seeded Tigers defeated #8 Clarkson in the quarterfinals, fell to #4 SUNY Brockport in the semfinals and defeated #2 Nazareth in the third-place match.  RIT improved to 30-9 in 2007.

Junior Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) (Wellington, OH/Keystone) was named to the All-Tournament Team.

RIT opened play with a 30-18, 30-21, 30-24 victory over Clarkson University on Saturday.  Schaffer  led the way with 22 digs and 14 kills.  Senior Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) contributed 11 kills and four blocks while hitting .478. 

Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) had 36 assists.  Christine Rowinski (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) recorded 17 digs.  Kristan Hernandez (Somerset, TX/Somerset) (Somerset, TX/Somerset) picked up 21 digs.

The Tigers fell 30-32, 22-30, 20-30 to SUNY Brockport on Sunday morning.  Schaffer had 14 kills and 14 digs, while Haney recorded 10 kills and four blocks.  Boxler dished out 30 assists.

RIT rebounded to defeat Nazareth 30-27, 30-22, 15-30, 30-22 to garner third place in the tournament.  The win was RIT's third over the Golden Flyers in four meetings this season.

Schaffer slammed 23 kills, as she eclipsed the 600-kill mark this season.  Boxler had 39 assists, while Rowinski recorded 21 digs.  Haney had 10 blocks in the win.

Stevens will host the four-team Empire 8 Championship on Nov. 3, with the winner earning an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament.  Stevens will host #4 Ithaca in one semifinal, while #2 RIT and #3 Nazareth will face off in the second semifinal.
