PITTSFORD, NY - The RIT women's soccer team improved to 8-5-2 and 3-2-1 in Empire 8 play after scoring three second half goals to erase a 1-0 deficit and defeat St. John Fisher 3-1 at Growney Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore
Alyssa Barnes (East Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) (East Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) scored the game-winning goal and assisted on another for the Tigers.
RIT trailed 1-0 at halftime after Kelly Zappatella scored for the Cardinals in the 28th minute.
Freshman
Morgan Eastlack (Albion, NY/Albion) (Albion, NY/Albion) tallied her second goal of the season in the 49th minute, as she collected a rebound off a shot from
Erica Main (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) and scored to tie the game at 1.
Barnes gave RIT the lead in the 70th minute, as she took a feed from
Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY/Marion) and ripped a shot from 30-yards out eluded the St. John Fisher goalkeeper and hit the back of the net. The goal was Barnes' third of the year. Adriaansen now has seven assists in 2007.
Exactly two minutes later, Barnes sent a pass to Main, who scored her seventh goal of the season on a breakaway to complete the scoring.
RIT out-shot St. John Fisher 18-14.
Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH/Canfield) made eight saves in the win for RIT. Ashley Martin stopped six shots for St. John Fisher (3-10-1, 2-5-0 Empire 8).
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to Nazareth College to play the Golden Flyers in an Empire 8 match-up starting at 3:30 p.m.
