ROCHESTER, NY – Danielle Painter (Mililani, HI/Mililani) (Miliani, HI/Miliani) scored her first collegiate goal with 5:39 left in the second overtime, lifting the RIT women's soccer team (6-3-1, 1-1-0 Empire 8) to a 2-1 win over SUNY Oswego in a non-league match on a cool and cloudy Tuesday afternoon at RIT Field. The Tigers have now won four in a row.
Painter's goal came on RIT's 30th shot of the afternoon. The Tigers held a 30-10 edge in shots during the game.
Painter grabbed a loose ball to the right of the box, dribbled in and slid a low, hard shot just under SUNY Oswego goalkeeper Toby Klein.
Kendra Shelters (Lyons, NY/Lyons) (Lyons, NY/Lyons) hit the left goal post off a scramble just minutes earlier.
Erica Main (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) tied the game in the 50th minute, as she took a long feed from
Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY/Marion). Adriaansen's long pass found Main streaking up the left side. Main out-raced a defender to the net and slid a low shot just inside the far post for her sixth goal of the season.
Later in the half, RIT just missed a tremendous chance to take the lead. Adriaansen took a shot from about 25-yards out that was stopped by Oswego goalkeeper Toby Klein. The rebound came right to Painter, who had a shot at the net stopped by an Oswego defender on the goal line.
Right at the 10-minute mark of the second half,
Sarah Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) played a ball to the net from 35-yards out that hit the crossbar. The rebound came right to
Amanda Sisti (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads) (Horseheads, NY/Horseheads), whose shot was stopped by Klein. Another rebound came to
Anna Kolnik (Sharon, WI/Big Foot) (Sharon, WI/Big Foot) who fired a shot over the net.
The Lakers struck first in the 37th minute. A free kick was played into the box, where SUNY Oswego had a few cracks at the net. Finally, Rachel Maul corralled a loose ball off a blocked shot and put a shot from a few yards out past RIT goalkeeper
Heather Moe (Chesapeake Beach, MD/Calvert) (Chesapeake Beach, MD/Calvert) to give the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
RIT had several good scoring chances the opening half, the best coming when
Ashley Pezze (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) (Schenectady, NY/Guilderland) hit the crossbar off a shot from 20-yards out.
RIT out-shot SUNY Oswego 13-5 in the first half.
Klein stopped 16 saves in defeat for SUNY Oswego, who are now 4-5-1 overall.
Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH/Canfield) stepped in to play the second half and both overtimes and earned the win, stopping two shots.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, as they host Utica College in an Empire 8 match on Saturday at 12 p.m.
