BROCKPORT, NY - The RIT volleyball team (24-8) picked up its fourth consecutive win, defeating SUNY Brockport in four games, 30-12, 30-21, 26-30, 30-20 at the Tuttle Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
Junior
Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) (Wellington, OH/Keystone) led the way with 19 kills and 16 digs. She eclipsed 500 kills this season and is now just 19 digs shy of 500 this year as well. She will be just the fourth Tiger to ever accomplish the feat of 500 kills and 500 digs in a single season. Junior setter
Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) recorded 51 assists, while senior
Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) had eight service aces.
Freshman libero
Kristan Hernandez (Somerset, TX/Somerset) (Somerset, TX/Somerset) compiled 16 digs, while
Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) and
Christine Rowinski (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) each had five blocks in the win.
This is the second win for the Tigers over SUNY Brockport this season. RIT defeated SUNY Brockport in five games en route to winning the RIT Invitational on September 15.
The Tigers are back in action on Saturday, as they travel to Alfred University to compete in the second round of Empire 8 crossover play. RIT plays Nazareth at 9:30 a.m. and Alfred at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
