Volleyball Wins Both Matches at Cortland Invitational on Saturday; Finish the Weekend With a 3-1 Mark

CORTLAND, NY -
The RIT volleyball team (23-8) went 2-0 on Saturday at the Cortland Invitational, capping off a 3-1 weekend.  The Tigers opened the day by defeating Hunter College a four-game match, 19-30, 30-15, 30-22, 30-18, and ten dispatched SUNY Geneseo in three games, 30-16, 30-18, 30-26.

Junior Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) (Wellington, OH/Keystone) led the way with 18 kills in the win over Hunter.  Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) recorded 47 assists, while Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) had seven blocks.  Kristan Hernandez (Somerset, TX/Somerset) (Somerset, TX/Somerset) compiled 18 digs, while Kate Gleason (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) (Hamburg, NY/Frontier) recorded four service aces.
 
In the second match, Haney had 14 kills.  Boxler dished out 33 assists, while Hernandez recorded 16 digs.  Vic Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) had six blocks.

On Friday, the Tigers fell to SUNY Cortland and defeated Daemen.

The Tigers are right back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to play the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles at 7 p.m.
