ROCHESTER
, NYThe RIT women’s soccer team (0-1-0) opened the season by falling to the #19 University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Blugolds by a score of 2-0 in the Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament on a cold and damp Saturday morning at RIT Field.
 
Wisconsin-Eau Claire got on the board first, as Maria Iaizzo took a feed from Amy Smith just inside the penalty area and lofted a shot just under a crossbar for her first tally of the season in the 14th minute.
 
RIT had two golden chances in the first half.  Sophomore Lauren Tracy (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) had a shot blocked off the goal line by Blugold defender Becky Westbrock.  Several minutes later, sophomore Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY/Marion) ripped a free kick off the crossbar.  The rebound came to Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) who ripped the ball over the net.
 
The Blugolds out-shot the Tigers 10-3 over the first 45 minutes of play.  Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH/Canfield) started in goal for the Tigers, but was knocked out of the game due to an injury in the 26th minute.
 
In the second half, the Blugolds defense tightened, not allowing a single RIT shot.
 
Katie Hanna scored the insurance goal for Wisconsin-Eau Claire with 10 minutes remaining in regulation, sliding a loose ball into the open net off a scramble in front.
 
Liz Weirick and Allie Rivard split the shut-out for the Blugolds.
 
In the other semifinal, Anna Whitmore’s goal in the 70th minute broke a 3-3 tie and vaulted SUNY Cortland to a 4-3 win over the College of Wooster.
 
The Red Dragons trailed 3-2 with less than 25 minutes to play when Katie Trivisonno ripped a shot into the upper right corner from about 20 yards out to tie the game.
 
Winnie Adrien had given Wooster a 3-2 lead in the 58th minute, as she slipped through two defenders and drilled a shot into the lower left hand corner.
 
Wooster got on the board first with a goal from Erin Lustic in the 13th minute.  The Red Dragons answered back with two straight goals, as Kayla Sweet took a feed from Marie Valentino in front of the Wooster net and back heeled a shot inside the left post.  Valentino converted a feed from Andrea Marino in front to take a 2-1 lead in the 28th minute.  Sarah Schostarez slammed home a rebound off a free kick from Angela Evans that clanged off the crossbar in the 43rd minute.

Wisconsin-Eau Claire will play SUNY Cortland game in the Rachel Miller Champinship at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.  The Tigers play Wooster in the consolation game at 11 a.m.
