ROCHESTER, NY – Kristen Denninger (Rochester, NY/Nazareth Academy)’s (Rochester, NY/Nazareth Academy) two goals helped the RIT (1-3-2, 1-0-0 E8) women’s soccer team to a 3-1 win over Elmira College in Empire 8 action this afternoon.
RIT took an early lead, scoring in the fifth minute. Denninger took a pass from Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough), who played a nice ball into the penalty area, for a 1-0 lead.
Alyssa Barnes (East Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) (East Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) made it 2-0 with her first goal of the season. She and Traversi combined on a nice 2-on-1 play. Traversi drew the Elmira defender to her and then passed it over to Barnes who beat Meaghan Doherty with a low hard shot.
Laurie Teske cut RIT’s lead in half with a goal early in the second half. The Soaring Eagles served a ball into the penalty area. The ball rattled around and found Teske’s foot. She rocketed a shot that beat RIT keeper Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield), making it 2-1.
Denninger put the game out of reach with her second goal of the game. Emily Stecher (New Cannan, CT/New Cannan) (New Canaan, CT/New Canaan) joined the offensive and served a ball into the box. Denninger ran onto the ball and ripped a shot passed Doherty for a 3-1 lead.
RIT outshot Elmira 16-2 and took 10 corner kicks to Elmira’s six. Conti allowed one goal on one shot faced. Doherty made five saves, allowing three goals.
RIT will face University of Rochester on Tuesday, September 19 at 4:30 pm at Fauver Stadium.
