Softball Wins Both Games Over Medaille in Final At-Bat

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT softball team swept a doubleheader from Medaille College, winning game one 4-3 and game two 2-1 in eight innings on Sunday afternoon at the RIT Field.
 
RIT scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally from 3-1 deficit and win game one 4-3.  Allison Ingalls (Cuba, NY/Cuba) (Cuba, NY/Cuba Rushford) drove in Rachel Richards (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) (Buffalo, NY/Holy Angels Academy) with the winning run. 
 
Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) started the inning with a leadoff walk.  Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) followed with a single, moving Jenna Mausolf (Hudson, NY/Hudson) (Hudson, NY/Hudson), who had pinch run for Hanzlik to third.  Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) drove in Mausolf with a groundout, cutting the Medaille lead to 3-2.
 
Richards tied the game with a double over the right fielder’s head, scoring Nailos.  Two batters later, Ingalls slammed a line-drive into the left center field gap to easily score Richards.
 
Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) allowed six hits and two runs in 6 2/3 innings to improve to 5-4 on the year.
 
Shannon O’Brien gave Medaille a 3-1 lead in the top of the sixth with double off the right field fence, driving in two runs.
 
Michelle Peruzzini allowed just five hits in 6 2/3 innings for Medaille (13-15).
 
In game two, Nikki Taylor (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego, NY/Oswego) drove in Ingalls with a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Tigers the 2-1 win.
 
Sara Vertilino’s RBI single in the third inning gave Medaille a 1-0 lead.
 
That lead stood until the seventh inning, when Hanzilk walked and was pinch-run for by Mausolf.  Mausolf then scored three batters later on a wild pitch to tie the game.
 
Shila Wells (Underhill, VT/Essex) (Underhill, VT/Essex) picked up the win for the Tigers, allowing just the one unearned run in eight strong innings.
 
Heidi Schille (Lake George, NY/Lake George) (Lake George, NY/Lake George) went 2-for-3 in game two for RIT. 
 
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, as they host St. John Fisher in a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
