ITHACA, NY -
The RIT baseball team (11-9, 6-2 Empire 8) swept #17 Ithaca College in Empire 8 doubleheader action on Sunday, winning game one 5-4 and game two 4-1, climbing back into first place in the conference standings.

In game one, the Tigers jumped out to a 5-1 fifth inning lead and held on for the 5-4 win

Mark Sapienza (Avon, NY/Avon) (Avon, NY/Avon), Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) and Adam Gerentine (Poughkeepsie, NY/Marlboro) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Marlboro) had two hits apiece in the win for RIT. Sapienza, Scroger and Matt Singer (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) drove in a run each.

First-year hurler Chris Miller (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) picked up his third straight win, allowing four runs in 5 2/3 innings. Sophomore Nick Rappa (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) pitched 1 1/3 of scoreless relief to earn his third save.

Josh Smith was 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and two RBI. Jeremy Peters also had two hits in the loss for the Bombers (16-6, 5-3 Empire 8).

In game two, pitcher Nick Bell (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) was outstanding, allowing just four hits and one run in 6 2/3 innings.  Rappa earned his secod save of the day, getting the final out, as Ithaca brought the tying run to the plate. 

Singer finished 2-for-3 with three RBI, while Gerentine and Ryan Tryt (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) each finished 3-for-4.  Tryt also scored twice. 

RIT exacted a bit of revenge on the Bombers, who swept the Tigers on Saturday by scored of 4-1 and 7-1.

The Tigers are back in action on Wednesday, as they make the quick trip to face the University of Rochester in a single game at 4 p.m.
