Click For BoxscorePITTSFORD, NY -- The #7 RIT men's lacrosse scored nine unanswered goals in the first half en route to an 18-5 win over Empire 8 rival St. John Fisher College. The win improves RIT to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the Empire 8.
RIT fell behind early in the first quarter as Brandon Harvey and Jason Branngan gave the Cardinals and early 2-0 lead.
The Tigers made it 2-1 on a goal from
Zach Bednarz (Webster, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY).
David Thering (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY) found a cutting Bednarz for his 14th goal of the season. Thering tied the score on a return feed from Bednarz with 4:01 to play in the opening quarter.
RIT extended their lead in the second quarter, scoring five unanswered goals. Bednarz tallied two goals in the second quarter and
Joe Argese (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) (Jordan, NY) and
Stephen Papa (Niskayuna, NY/Niskayuna) (Niskayuna, NY) each scored for RIT.
RIT's defense was stifling especially in the second quarter, holding the Cardinals to just four shots in the quarter.
The Tigers put the game out of reach in the third quarter, scoring nine times.
Andrew Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning, NY) scored five of RIT's nine goals in the third quarter.
Jacob Brunner (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) (Lafayette, NY),
Joe Argese (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) and
David Demuth (Jordan, NY) also scored for RIT.
RIT's defensve unit did not allow St. John Fisher an ounce of room to maneuver in the second half, holding the Cardinals to seven shots in the second half.
Jacob Tuller (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning, NY) had three ground balls.
Rob Mizelle (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford) (Pittsford, NY), making his first collegiate start was outstanding on defense, grabbing three grond balls.
Chris Bulawa (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) (Camillus, NY) had three ground balls and
Phil Davenport (Linganore, MD/Linganore) (Linganore, MD) had eight ground balls.
John Foley (Guelph, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) (Guelph, ON) got the start in net for RIT, making five saves and allowing five goals.
RIT will play Ithaca College on Wednesday afternoon at 4 pm in Ithaca, New York in an Empire 8 clash.
