BROCKPORT, NY - The RIT baseball team (14-13, 7-5 Empire 8) split a doubleheader at SUNY Brockport on Wednesday afternoon, defeating the Golden Eagles 12-8 in game one and losing 3-2 in game two.

The Tigers ripped 17 hits in game one.  RIT's one through six hitters were a combined 15-for-25.

Matt Singer (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima), Brian Lindenau (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) and Mark Sapienza (Avon, NY/Avon) (Avon, NY/Avon) were all 3-for-4.  Singer scored four times, while Lindenau hit home plate three times.

Singer and Tosh along with Brockport sophomore Kyle Holmes each homered in game one.

RIT scored four times in the first inning and added another run in the second to take an early 5-0 lead. Brockport (20-13) answered with five runs in the bottom of the second to tie the game. The inning was highlighted by a three-run homerun by Holmes.

After two scoreless innings, the Tigers broke loose for five runs in the sixth to regain the lead. Tosh’s homer in the inning brought home three of the five runs. Singer added a solo homer in the seventh as RIT extended its lead to 12-5.

Brockport managed three runs in the bottom of the inning for the final score of 12-8.

In game two, Brockport’s Jake Dennstedt (Churchville, NY/Churchville-Chili) and RIT’s Dylan Rees (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) locked up in a pitcher’s duel as Brockport came from behind for the 3-2 win.

RIT scored single runs in the first and second innings to take a 2-0 lead before Brockport rallied for three runs in the bottom of the third to take the slim lead. Dennstedt kept the Tigers off the board for the next three innings and Matt Biviano pitched the final inning for his first save of the year.

Dennstedt allowed seven hits and struck out five over six innings. Rees was equally impressive as he gave up seven hits as well and struck out four Golden Eagle batters.

Singer finished 4-for-7 with five runs and two runs batted in and Tosh chipped in four hits with a double and his homerun.

RIT is back in action this weekend, as they finish their Empire 8 schedule with back-to-back doubleheaders at Hartwick College.
