Baseball Splits Doubleheader Against St. John Fisher on Saturday

ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT Baseball team (13-12, 7-5 Empire 8) split a doubleheader against St. John Fisher (17-9, 4-4) losing game one 8-1, and rebounding to win game two 6-0 in an Empire 8 matchup on a beautiful Saturday Afternoon.

In the first game, St. John Fisher rode a 7-run third inning to dominate RIT. Cardinals pitcher Jim Junglen quieted the Tigers bats as RIT could only muster five hits. Sophomore Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) scored the lone run for the Tigers. Freshman Chris Miller (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) (Henrietta, NY/Rush-Henrietta) was saddled with the loss, giving up five runs in 2.2 innings. His record is now 3-2.

The second game turned into a defensive duel as both defenses fought to keep the score 0-0 for 5+ innings. Sophmore Ryan Tryt (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) (Fulton, NY/G. Ray Bodley) broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning with a bases clearing double that proved to be the catalyst for a seven-run inning.

Matt Austin (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) was 2-3 with one run scored, Brian Lindenau (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) and Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) also added an RBI for RIT.

Dylan Rees (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) threw a complete game shutout to improve his record to 5-2 overall.

RIT is back in action on Saturday, April 22, when they face St. Lawrence University in a doubleheader. First pitch is at 1 pm.
