Softball Gets Swept By Union

SCHENECTADY, NY –
The RIT softball team (11-13) dropped a pair of contests to host Union College in non-conference softball action at Alexander Field on Friday, 5-3 and 5-1.

In game one, Union scored four runs in the sixth to open up a tie game and come away with a 5-3 win.

Josa Hanzlik (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) doubled to right field in the first inning to drive in Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg) (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg). Union answered in the bottom of the second though with a solo homerun from Michelle Rogers.

Down 5-1, RIT chipped away in the seventh inning to come within two runs with two outs. Heidi Schille (Lake George, NY/Lake George) (Lake George, NY/Lake George) and Hanzlik each singled to drive in a run, but could get no closer.

Abby Arceneaux allowed three runs on nine hits while striking out five batters for Union. Shila Wells (Underhill, VT/Essex) (Underhill, VT/Essex) gave up five runs on 13 hits and struck out three batters in the loss.

In game two Union took an early 2-0 in the first inning on a two-run double by Megan Kaknis. Arceneaux doubled in the second inning to bring in Stephanie Rubino after she led off with a double to right center.

Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) brought in the lone Tigers’ run to make it 4-1 in the fifth with a double to left center that brought in Jenna Mausolf (Hudson, NY/Hudson) (Hudson, NY/Hudson) who led off the inning with a single.

Jackie Coffey picked up the win for Union, allowing an earned run on four hits. Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Senaca West) allowed five earned runs on nine hits in the loss.

RIT travels to Skidmore on Saturday to play the Thoroughbreds at 1 p.m.
