ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT baseball team (12-11, 6-4 Empire 8) had its three-game winning streak snapped, as they dropped both games of a doubleheader 4-1 and 6-2 to St. John Fisher (16-8, 3-3 Empire 8) on Friday afternoon at the RIT Field.
Matt Fuller threw a complete-game three-hitter in game one to pick up his sixth win of the year for the Cardinals. He was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.
RIT had the tying run at the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but Fisher shortstop Andy Campbell made a leaping grab of a frozen rope hit by
Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) to end the rally.
Chris Botsford was 2-for-3 with a double, runs scored and RBI for the Cardinals.
Colin Bradley (Barre, VT/Spaulding) (Barre, VT/Spaulding) drove in the lone Tiger run
. Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) and
Brian Lindenau (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) had the other Tiger hits.
Mike Fox (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY/Victor) took the loss for RIT, allowing eight hits and four runs in seven innings.
St. John Fisher got on the board early in game two, as Andy Campbell hit a solo home run to left center field in the top of the first to give St. John Fisher a lead they would not relinquish.
RIT left the bases loaded in both the bottom of the first and second innings.
The Cardinals scored in the first four innings and used a three-run fourth frame to break the game open and take a 6-1 lead.
Lindenau drove in the RIT run in the second inning, cutting Fisher’s lead to 2-1. The second baseman finished 3-for-3 in game two.
Bradley cut the Cardinals lead to 6-2 with a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
Ryan Hanson picked up the win for the Cardinals, allowing just four hits in 4 2/3 innings. Campbell, Fuller and Mike Palermo had two hits each in the win.
Nick Bell (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) (Jamestown, NY/Jamestown) took the loss for RIT, allowing four earned runs in 3 2/3 innings.
Billy Scorse (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) pitched two innings of scoreless relief, while
Chad Hendy (Roseburg, OR/Glide) held Fisher off the board for 1 1/3 innings.
RIT left 14 men on base in game two.
The Tigers and Cardinals play a second doubleheader on Saturday at RIT. The twin-bill begins at 12 p.m.
