Baseball Uses Five-Run Ninth Inning to Defeat University of Rochester

ROCHESTER, NY -
The RIT baseball team (12-9, 6-2 Empire 8) scored five runs in the top of the ninth inning to break a 5-5 tie and defeat the host University of Rochester 10-5 in non-league action on Wednesday afternoon.

Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) drove in the game-winning run with a bases-loaded single.  Dan Christner (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) followed with a single that drove in two runs and third scoring when the centerfielder misplayed the hit.  Brian Lindenau (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) completed the onslaught with a RBI single.

Jeremy Tosh (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) (Woodbine, MD/Glenelg) reached base five times, going 3-for-3 with his first collegiate home run and two doubles to go along with three runs scored and a RBI. 

Christner and Adam Gerentine (Poughkeepsie, NY/Marlboro) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Marlboro) each had two hits and two RBI.

Dylan Rees (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) picked up the win in relief, his fourth of the year, by pitching a scoreless eighth inning.  Pat Walters (Rochester, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY/Webster) started, allowing four earned run in six innings.  Bill Scorse (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and Nick Rappa (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.

RIT held leads of 3-0, 4-3 and 5-4 before the Yellowjackets came back to tie on all three occasions.

Ed Kahovec was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI for the Yellowjackets (10-13).

The Tigers are back in action on Friday and Saturday, as they host St. John Fisher in a pair of doubleheaders.  Friday's doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., while Saturday's begins at noon.
