ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT softball team fell to 3-5 in Empire 8 play and 11-11 overall after losing both games of a doubleheader to St. John Fisher by scores of 10-0 and 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon at the RIT Field.
St. John Fisher (19-7, 7-3 Empire 8) slammed 10 hits and took advantage of four RIT errors in game one.
Senior pitcher Amanda Herberger picked up the shut-out, allowing just five hits and striking out 10 batters.
Kate Maurer and Katie Botkins slammed home runs in the top of the fourth inning to give the Cardinals a 9-0 lead. Botkins was 3-for-3 with two runs and three RBI.
RIT (11-10, 3-4 Empire 8) had five singles. Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY, Penn Yan Academy) took the loss on the mound, allowing two earned runs in 3 1/3 innings to fall to 5-5
In game two,
Stephanie Nailos (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) (Pittsfield, MA/Taconic) gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with a RBI double in the top of the first inning.
In the bottom half of the inning, Amanda Novitske put the Cardinals in front 2-1 with a two-run double. Novitske then hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth to complete the scoring. She was 2-for-4 with all four RBI for the Cardinals.
Herberger picked up her second win of the day, allowing just three hits and striking out 10.
Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) threw a complete game for RIT, allowing eight hits and four earned runs.
The Tigers are back in action on Friday, as they travel to Schnectady, NY to play Union College in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.
