ROCHESTER, NY Junior pitcher Mike Fox (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY/Victor) came within two outs of throwing a no-hitter in game one, as the RIT baseball team extended its winning streak to five games after sweeping Empire 8 rival Utica 9-2 and 3-0 in doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon at the RIT Field.

Fox struck out 10 en route to the win, as the Pioneers had just one base runner over the first six innings.  Matt Doscher broke up the no-hitter with a clean single through the hole into left field.  John Tine followed with a towering home run to break up the shut-out.

Matt Singer (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) hit a home run for RIT (7-6) in game one.  Jim Miller (Rochester. NY/Rush Henrietta) (Rochester, NY/Rush-Henrietta) hit a three-run double in the win.  Adam Gerentine (Poughkeepsie, NY/Marlboro) (Poughkeepsie, NY/Marlboro) was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.  Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) had two hits.

Dylan Rees (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) (Wampsville, NY/Oneida) was just as dominant in game two, allowing just four hits and striking out eight to pick up his second win in six days.

RIT scored two runs in the bottom of third inning, with the aid of two Utica errors.  Singer hit an infield single that scored Gerentine when the second baseman threw the ball away.  Brian Lindenau (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) then drove in Singer with a single to left.

The Tigers added an insurance run in the fifth, as Scroger hot a bases-loaded single to drive in Lindenau after two walks and a hit batter, all with two outs.

Justin Richards pitched well in defeat for Utica (4-8), allowing just five hits and an earned run over five innings of work.

After allowing 71 runs over eight games during their Arizona trip, RIT has allowed just six runs in the last five games, all at home.

The Tigers are back in action on Sunday, as they host Utica in a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
