ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team rebounded from their first defeat of the season with a 16-5 win over Elmira College on a sunny afternoon at RIT Field. The win improves the eighth ranked Tigers to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in the Empire 8. Elmira falls to 3-4 overall and 0-1 in the Empire 8.

RIT came out firing right from the opening face-off, leading 4-1 after the first quarter. Scott Farress (Webster, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY/Webster), Wes Adam (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) and Andrew Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning, NY/Corning East) each had goals for the Tigers in the opening quarter.

RIT extended their lead in the second quarter, striking six times and allowing two goals by the Soaring Eagles. Farress, Rucco, Joe Argese (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge), David Demuth (Jordan, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) and David Thering (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport) lit the lamp for the Tigers.

The Tigers extended their lead in the third quarter, scoring five times, including four straight. Demuth, Colin Jesien (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-S. Dorchester) (Cambridge, MD/Cambridge-S. Dorchester) and Eric Pritchard (Webster, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY/Webster) each scored for RIT in the third. RIT's defense was stellar, allowing two goals in the second half.

David Demuth rounded out the scoring for RIT with a man-up goal in the fourth quarter, tallying his third of the game.

Ruocco and Jesien also had three goals for the Tigers, while Scott Farress (Webster, NY/Webster) and Wes Adam (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) each had two goals.

Phil Davenport (Linganore, MD/Linganore) (Linganore, MD/Linganore) led RIT with seven ground balls, while Chris Bulawa (Camillus, NY/West Genesee) (Camillus, NY/West Genessee) and David Thering (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each had six ground balls. Jacob Cannan (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit) and Jacob Brunner (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) (Lafayette, NY/Lafayette) combined to win 19-of-23 face offs.

John Foley (Guelph, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) (Guelph, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) picked up his seventh win of the season allowing five goals and making five saves.

RIT will host Alfred University on Saturday afternoon at 1 pm on RIT Field. Saturday's game will be broadcast on WYSL 1040 am.
