CORTLAND, NY -- The RIT men's lacrosse team came into today's game versus Cortland State on a hot streak. The Tigers were ranked sixth in the latest USILA Division III poll., undefeated and outscoring their opponents 104-29. That all changed on Saturday as the Tigers fell to #7 Cortland State, 14-6.
The Red Dragons scored the game's first seven goals and never allowed RIT a chance to get into any kind of rythm. The loss drops RIT to 6-1 on the season, while Cortland State improves to 4-1.
Andrew Ruocco (Corning, NY/Corning East) (Corning,NY/Corning East) scored the Tiger's first goal with 12:51 to play in the second quarter. Ruocco and Zach Bednarz (Webster, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY/Webster) each had two goals for RIT. Scott Farress (Webster, NY/Webster) (Webster, NY/Webster) added three assists.
RIT out shot Cortland State 33-32 but the Red Dragons won the ground ball battle (43-35) an the face-off battle (13-of-22).
The Tigers went 1 for 5 with the man advantage, while the Red Dragons scored four times in nine chances with the man-advantage.
John Foley (Guelph, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) (Guelph, ON/Our Lady of Lourdes) played all 60 minutes in net for RIT, making six saves and allowing 14 goals.
RIT opens the Empire 8 portion of their schedule on Wednesday when they host Elmira College. The game gets under way at 3:30 pm.
