Women's Track and Field Breaks Two Team Records at Deneault Invitational

ITHACA, NY -
The RIT women's indoor track and field squad competed at the Deneault invitational, hosted by Cornell University on Saturday afternoon.  Trisha Sliker (Albion, NY/Albion) (Albion, NY) and Danielle Simmons (Brewertown, NY/Brewertown) (Brewertown, NY) broke RIT records in their respective events.

Despite competing against Cornell, a Division I University , the team more than held its own. 

Sliker finished second in the 3,000-meter dash in a Tiger record breaking time of time of 10:36.32, breaking the old mark by three seconds.  Simmons finished second place showing in the 800-meter dash, finishing with a time of 2:14.71, which broke her own record by nearly three seconds. 

LeKeisha Perez (Buffalo, NY) finished third in the 60-meter dash with a time of 9.33 seconds.   

Katie Palermo (Milford, PA/Delaware Valley) finished fifth in the 400-meters with a time of 1:02.66. 

Allison Griggs (Salem, CT/East Lyme) (Salem, CT/East Lyme) finished fourth in the shuot-put with a toss of 12.23 meters and fifth in the weight throw with a great distance of 15.00 meters.

The squad will be back in action on Friday, as they host the NYSCTC Championships at the Gordon Field House.
