ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's swimming and diving squad finished third at the 2006 Don Richards Invitational Tournament hosted by the Tigersharks at the Judson Pool over the weekend. RIT set two new school records. Nazareth College won the three-day event, with Ithaca placing second and Alfred finishing fourth.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Teresa Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy), Melissa Ashby (St. George's, Grenada/Westmoreland) (St. George's Grenada/Westmoreland), Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) and Kristen Curtze (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) set a new school record on Friday, finishing third with a time of 1:54.50.
Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy), broke the school record in the 100-yard butterfly, breaking a minute, finishing in :59.70.
Nazareth won the tournament with 1,166 points. Ithaca was second with 1,052 points, while RIT had 646. Alfred finished fourth with 346 points.
The 200-yard medley team broke the school record set less than nine months ago at the New York State tournament by nearly a full second. Teresa Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) and Curtze were part of that record-breaking squad, as well as current Tiger Stephanie Owczarczak (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca) and 2006 graduate Sarah Keesler (Endicott, NY/).
On Saturday, Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) won the 200-yard butterfly in an excellent time of 2:14.10. Teresa Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) placed third in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:20.29. Curtze also was third in the 100-freestyle, finishing with a time of :56.03.
The 200-yard relay team of Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy), Teresa Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy), Owczarczak and Curtze was second in the 200-yard freestyle relay in a time of 1:43.03.
On Sunday, Curtze was fourth in the 50-yard freestyle. Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:13.35. Both Tiger relay teams finished third on Sunday.
RIT is back in action on Saturday, as they travel down to road to compete at the University of Rochester at 1 p.m.
