Click For BoxscoreROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT men's basketball team came back from a nine-point second half deficit to beat York College (NY) 64-60 on Tuesday evening at Clark Gymnasium. Junior guard
Barrett Zeinfeld (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) (Tucson, AZ/Catalina Foothills) led RIT with 20 points, while
Tim Bacon (Massena. NY/Massena) (Massena, NY) added 13 points and nine rebounds.
The first half ended in a 35-35 tie as RIT shot 39.4% from the floor.
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) (Almond, NY/Hornell) and Zeinfeld paced the Tigers with eight points apiece.
Mark Carson (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) (Voorheesville, NY/Voorheesville) hauled down five rebounds for RIT.
York shot well from the floor in the first half, connecting on 14-of-28 (50%) from the floor. Jeffrey Boone had 12 first-half points and five rebounds.
The Cardinals came out hot in the first five minutes of the second half, opening up a nine-point lead on a layup by Aaron Wilson.
RIT chipped away at York's lead, taking a 48-47 lead on a nice alley-oop from
Colin Roy (Malta, NY/Ballston Spa) to
Kenny Gethers (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes).
Zeinfeld's three-pointer with nine minutes to play gave RIT a 51-49 lead. Dennis Echols hit a layup with 8:05 to play to tie the score at 51-51.
The lead went back and forth over the next few minutes until Gethers' jumper with 2:29 to play gave RIT the lead for good at 59-57.
Zeinfeld put the game away in the closing seconds, making three-of-four free throws.
Dennis Echols led all scorers, scoring 21 points for York. Jeffrey Boone added 14 points and grabbed 11 rebouonds.
Zeinfeld was one of four players to score in double figures for the Tigers.
Kenny Gethers (Syracuse, NY/Bishop Grimes) and
Scott Young (Almond, NY/Hornell) each had 11 points to go along with Zeinfeld's 20 and Bacon's 13 points.
Jimmy Torto (Binghamton, NY/Seton Catholic) came off the bench and dished out five assists.
RIT is off until Friday when they travel to SUNY Cortland for an 6 pm start.
