ROCHESTER, NYThe RIT (4-4-3, 3-0-1 E8) women’s soccer team played to a 2-2 vie versus Nazareth College (5-4-1, 1-2-1 E8) on a rainy Wednesday afternoon. RIT led until the one-minute mark when Nazareth netted the game-tying goal.

Nazareth controlled much of the play in the early part of the first half. Caroline Parson crossed a ball into RIT’s penalty area but Rosie Simiele’s header was saved by Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH/Canfield).

RIT finally worked the ball down into their offensive end and generated a good scoring chance off a corner kick. Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion)’s (Marion, NY/Marion) cross found Gabrielle Peters (Marion, NY/Marion)’ (Marion, NY/Marion) foot but her one-timer fell right into the hands of Shannn Burns.

Nazareth’s best chance at a goal came with about 12 minutes remaining in the first half. Jessica Rogers crossed a ball into the 6-yard box that made it through several defenders and onto the foot of Kelly Finn. She had a shot from point blank range that Conti just got her hand on.

RIT was out shot by the Golden Flyers 8-2 in the first half. Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) made four saves, while Shannon Burns made a save for Nazareth.

The Tigers took a 1-0 lead early in the second half on a nice build up from the back. Alyssa Barnes (East Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) (E. Hampstead, NH/Pinkerton Academy) fed a pass through to Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) who one-timed a shot past Shannon Burns.

Nazareth tied the score with 32 minutes to play in regulation. Jessemyn Russell nailed a long shot from 21 yards out that floated over Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield)’s outstretched fingers, tying the score at 1-1.

Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) dribbled the ball all the way into the zone and scored the go-ahead goal just seconds after Nazareth had tied the score.

With the rain teaming down in buckets the Golden Flyers had a great chance to equalize but Rosie Simiele’s header got bogged down in the mud, allowing Conti to get a hand on it and make the save.

Kristen Denninger (Rochester, NY/Nazareth Academy) (Rochester, NY/Nazareth Academy) had a great chance to give RIT a two-goal lead. She gathered the cross, took a dribble and fired a shot that Burns sprawled out and grabbed.

Nazareth tied the game with 1:02 remaining in regulation. Rachel Cushman hit an outside-in bending ball off a corner kick that Jessica Rogers headed past a RIT defender  and into the far corner, tying the game at 2-2.

In the first overtime Rachel Cushman had a partial breakaway. Her low shot to the far post was tipped away by Conti.

Jessemyn Russell had a golden opportunity for Nazareth in the second overtime but Conti closed her legs before the ball went through and into the goal.
