Women's Volleyball Goes 1-2 at NYSWCAA Tournament

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY - The #6 RIT volleyball team (23-13) went 1-2 at the NYSWCAA Tournament over the weekend at Skidmore College, defeating #11 SUNY Oneonta in three games in the first round and falling in four games to #3 Ithaca later in the evening.On Sunday, the Tigers fell to #7 Vassar in five games.

The Tigers defeated SUNY Oneonta 30-23, 30-15, 30-21 in the first match as Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) had 14 kills and one block while Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) (Wellington, OH/Keystone) added 15 kills, eight digs and four aces in the victory. Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) recorded 34 assists for RIT.

SUNY Oneonta's Mae Eddlinger had 17 digs and Caity Welche had five kills, four digs and one ace in the effort.

In the nightcap, Ithaca exacted revenge on RIT after the Tigers won last weekend's Empire 8 match, winning 20-30, 30-27, 30-20, 34-32.  Schaffer led RIT with 21 kills and 22 digs in the effort while Boxler added 38 assists.

Ithaca's Amanda Hubbard had 16 kills, six digs and five blocks in the victory. Teammate Rachel Busch added 13 kills and one block while Corinna Doctor had 42 assists and two blocks.

On Sunday, RIT fell to Vassar in five games. Scores of the match were 30-26, 25-30, 30-27, 20-30, 11-15.

The Tigers host the 2006 Empire 8 Championship Tournament on Saturday, Nov. 4. The Tigers open the day with a match against St. john Fisher at 12 p.m. If the Tigers win, they host either Ithaca or Nazareth at 7 p.m.
