ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT women's swimming and diving squad, led by a host of newcomers and experienced veterans opened the 2006-07 season with a 143-98 win over Alfred University at the Judson Pool on Wednesday evening.
Teresa Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy), Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) and Kristen Curtze (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) (Edinboro, PA/General McLane) each won a pair of races. Teresa Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) won the 100-yard backstroke and 200-yard fresstyle. Caitlyn Burr (Delhi, NY/Delaware Academy) annexed the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly, while Curtze won the 50- and 100-yard freestyle.
The Burr sisters, Melissa Ashby (St. George's, Grenada/Westmoreland) (St. George's, Grenada/Westmoreland) and Stephanie Owczarczak (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca) teammed up to win the 400-yard individual medley. Curtze, Owczarczak, Lindsay Karl (Victor, NY/Victor) and Angela Palomaki (Victor, NY/Victor) (Victor, NY/Victor) combined to win the 400-yard freestyle relay.
Ashby, a former olympian for Grenada, also won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:15.25.
The Tigersharks (1-0) are back in action Saturday, as they travel to SUNY Fredonia to compete against the Blue Devils at 1 p.m.
