ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT volleyball team (20-10, 5-0 Empire 8) stayed unbeaten in conference play after defeating Utica College 30-7, 30-17, 30-20 and host Elmira College 30-20, 30-28, 30-18 on Saturday in Empire 8 conference crossover play at the Speidel Gymnasium in Elmira.
The Tigers jumped out to a dominant 30-7 first game win and never looked back against the Pioneers, who fell to 0-4 in Empire 8 play and 7-17 overall in 2006.
RIT recorded a season-best 23 aces in the win. Cecilia Enestrom (Medicine Hat, AB/McCoy) (Medicine Hat, Alberta/McCoy) led RIT with a career-high nine service aces to go along with nine kills and five digs. Christine Rowinski (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) (Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow hills East) recorded eight kills and seven digs, while Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) had seven kills and six service aces.
Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) had 25 assists. Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) led the Tigers with four blocks.
RIT upended the hosts 30-20, 30-28, 30-18 later in the day. Enestrom recorded 18 kills, while Boxler dished out 41 assists and Rowinski had 18 digs.
RIT is right back in action on Sunday, as they play Ithaca at 12:15 and Hartwick at 4:45 p.m. Ithaca is also 5-0 in conference play and the winner of the match will host the Empire 8 championship tournament on Nov. 4.
