PITTSFORD, NY – The RIT men’s soccer team won their fourth straight game on Wednesday evening with a 2-0 defeat of St. John Fisher College. Junior forward Chuck Marion (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) scored two goals for the Tigers.
RIT had a couple of good chances in the early portion of the first half. Levi Stuck (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) (Wolcott, NY/North Rose-Wolcott) was on the receiving end of two nice build ups, but his shots were high and wide of the target.
St. John Fisher had a few chances late in the first half off of corner kicks, but RIT’s defense held strong keeping the Cardinals scoreless.
Shots were even at four apiece in the first half. Alan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) (Lancaster, PA/ Penn Manor) did not have to make a save in the first half for RIT and Adam Durst made just one save for the Cardinals.
RIT’s had a golden opportunity early in the second half when Chuck Marion (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) ripped a shot that clanked off the post.
The Tigers took the lead with 39:01 of the second half on a goal by Chuck Marion (Syracuse, NY/Westhill). Geoff Schmidt (Wooster, OH/Wooster) (Wooster, OH/Wooster) out-muscled a defender creating a two-on-one situation. Schmidt fed a pass over to Marion who placed his shot in the low left corner, giving RIT a 1-0 lead.
The Tigers made it 2-0 on Marion’s second goal of the evening. Mark Frisicano (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) found an open Marion in the middle of the field and he put another well placed shot into the lower left corner.
RIT out shot the Cardinals 12 to 8. Alan Smith (Lancaster, PA/Penn Manor) had to make just one save for RIT and Adam Durst stopped two shots for St. John Fisher.
The Tigers, who improve to 7-6-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the Empire 8, are off until October 25 when they face arch rival Nazareth College.
