ROCHESTER, NY – The RIT women’s soccer team (5-6-3, 3-1-1 Empire 8) got back on the winning track by defeating Daemen College 1-0 at the Sahlen Center, an indoor facility in Buffalo on Tuesday afternoon.
The Tigers came out firing in the opening half, recording a season-best 20 shots over the first 45 minutes of play.
Krystal Adriaansen (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY/Marion) put the Tigers on the board in the 17
th minute, as she ripped a shot from 30-yards out off the crossbar and in for her second goal of the season.
Emily Traversi (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough) (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborougb) assisted on the goal.
Although RIT ripped 20 first-half shots, that was the only goal of the stanza. The Tigers hit three posts and had several other chances turned aside by Daemen goalkeeper Ally Young. Traversi,
Melissa Pratt (Consesus, NY/Livonia) (Conesus, NY/Livonia) and
Erica Main (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) all rang shots off the crossbar.
Daemen controlled played for most of the second half, but the RIT defense remained tough and preserved the shutout.
RIT outshot Daemen 25-10.
Ashley Conti (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (Canfield, OH/Canfield) recorded the shutout in net for RIT, stopping five shots. Young made 10 saves for Daemen (8-5-2).
RIT is back in action on Saturday, as they travel to Hartwick College to play the Hawks in an Empire 8 match at 2 p.m.
