ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT volleyball team improved to 3-0 in the Empire 8 and 18-9 overall after defeating cross-town rival Nazareth College (9-15, 1-1 Empire 8) 30-20, 30-27, 22-30, 30-26 on Wednesday evening at the Clark Gym.
The Tigers jumped out to a quick 17-3 in game one and never looked back, taking the first game 30-20. The Tigers braved a strong Nazareth rally in game two. The Golden Flyers dominated game three, leading by as much as 13 points. RIT rebounded in game four, again fending off a furious Nazareth rally.
Shea Haney (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) (Newark, DE/St. Elizabeth) led the way offensively with 16 kills and four aces. Cecilia Enestrom (Medicine Hat, AB/McCoy) (Medicine Hat, Alberta/McCoy) recorded a double-double with 16 digs and 12 kills.
Nichole Boxler (Varysburg, NY/Attica) (Varysburg, NY/Attica) recorded 40 assists and had three assisted blocks. Jessica Schaffer (Wellington, OH/Keystone) (Wellington, OH/Keystone) led the Tigers with 18 digs, while Victoria Petko (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) (East Amherst, NY/Clarence) recorded 10 kills and four blocks.
RIT is back in action on Tuesday, as they travel to play the SUNY Geneseo Knights in a non-conference match. The match gets underway at 7 p.m.
