ROCHESTER, NY The RIT men’s hockey team fell to Quinnipiac University, 4-1 this evening in non-conference action at Frank Ritter Memorial Arena. The loss drops RIT to 6-16-2 on the season, while Quinnipiac improve to 11-13-0.

The first period was scoreless for the majority of the time with neither gereating very good scoring chances. Quinnipiac tallied two goals late in the first and led 2-0 after the first period. The Bobcats took a 1-0 lead with 3:12 to play on a goal by Chris Myers. Ty Dienema gained the zone with a burst of speed up the left side. He saw a streaking Myers on the right wing and zipped a pass across the ice. Myers sprawled out and was able to tip the puck home before flying into the goal himself.

With less than a minute remaining in the first period the Bobcats out-worked the Tigers inside their. Ben Nelson got to the loose puck down low and roofed a shot passed Jocelyn Guimond (St.-Edouard-de-Lotbiniere, PQ/Williams Lake) (Quebec City, PQ).

RIT came out in the second period with a lot more energy. The Tigers were able to generate some really good scoring chances in the second and capitalized at the 4:41 mark of the period. Darren Olson (Abbotsford, BC/Coquitlam) (Abbotsford, BC) fed a long breakout pass to Ricky Walton (Hamilton, ON/Hamilton Red Wings) (Hamilton, ON) who was waiting at the blue line. He broke in alone on Bud Fisher and beat him with a nice deek to the backhand.

RIT kept the pressure on the Bobcats, firing a slew of shots at Fisher. Steve Farrer (Belle River, ON/Chatham Jr. Maroons) (Belle River, ON) had a really good chance midway through the second but his shot from the slot was right at Fisher who made the save.

With 7:28 to play in the second Quinnipiac made it 3-1 on a goal by David Marshall. He took pass and fired a wrist shot from the left side that seemed to handcuff Guimond.

Quinnipiac scored the lone goal of the third period, taking a 4-1 lead. The Bobcats took advantage of a funny bounce of the puck off the boards. Chris Myers gathered in the loose puck and fed David Marshall. He stopped short, let the defenseman go past and fed Mark Agnew who tipped home the puck into an open net.

RIT was out shot by Quinnipiac 32-25. The Tigers went 0-for-6 on the power play, while Quinnipiac went 1 for 6.

Jocelyn Guimond (St.-Edouard-de-Lotbiniere, PQ/Williams Lake) made 28 saves in net for the Tigers, taking the loss. Bud Fisher made 24 saves for the Bobcats, picking up his ninth win of the season.

RIT and Quinnipiac will play on Saturday evening at 7 p.m. in the Frank Ritter Memorial Arena.
