ROCHESTER, NY - The RIT Women's Soccer team (0-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit to tie the game at 2 in the second half, but fell short, 3-2 to Wilkes University in the semi-final of the Rachel Miller Memorial Tournament ar RIT Field on Saturday.
RIT had the best chance to open the scoring in the first 20 minutes of play, but an Alaina Chorney (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) shot glanced off the post in the 19th minute, keeping the game scoreless.
Wilkes jumped on the board soon after, as Bethany Head grabbed a loose ball in front of the RIT cage and slid it just inside the far goal post to give Wilkes a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute.
Catherine Simone made it 2-0 Wilkes at the 34:50 mark, heading a ball from about 15 yards out just under the crossbar for her first tally of the season.
The Tigers got their first goal just 12 seconds before the end of the half, as Melanie Bryant (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) (Lancaster, NY/Sacred Heart) took a nice feed from Brittany Peters (Marion, NY/Marion) (Marion, NY/Marion) to score on a partial breakaway to make it 2-1 Wilkes at the half.
Peters tied the game at 2 in the 48th minute, picking up a loose ball just outside the box, dribbling a few steps and ripping a low shot just inside the left goal post for her first tally of 2005.
Both sides threatened to get the game-winner, but it was not until the 85th minute, when Christina Waldele scored on a loose ball scramble in front of the Tiger net to make it 3-2 Wilkes.
RIT peppered the Wilkes net in the final five minutes, but were unable to score the equalizer.
RIT out-shot Wilkes 17-12. Liz Pauley made 11 saves for Wilkes. Jamie Marsden (Roselle, NJ/Pingry School) (Roselle, NJ/The Pingry School) made three saves for the Tigers.
Peters, a 2005 RIT tri-captain recorded a career-high three points in the loss.
Wilkes (1-0) plays Cortland in the championship game at 1:30 on Sunday. RIT plays Skidmore in the consolation game at 11 a.m. Cortland defeated Skidmore 4-3 in two overtimes on Saturday.
