Click For BoxscoreROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (3-3-1) men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw against Clarkson University (0-5-1) on Saturday afternoon.
After a scoreless first half the Tigers struck first in the 52nd minute. Senior
Mike Lawson (Wall, NJ/Wall) (Wall, NJ/Wall) fed a perfect pass to
Jorge Ciurlizza (McLean, VA/Gonzaga) (McLean, VA/Gonzaga) who beat Clarkson keeper,
David Hennessy for a 1-0 RIT lead.
Clarkson responded with a goal in the 58th minute.
Steve Battisti took a pass from
Joe Eisenhauer, beating
Dan Slocum (Irondequoit, NY/Bishop Kearney) (Irondequoit, NY/Irondequoit), tying the game at 1-1.
RIT controlled the bulk of the play the remainder of regulation and both overtime sessions, generating some very good scoring chances but were unable to convert.
The Tigers outshot Clarkson, 30-13. Slocum made just two saves for RIT and Hennessy made 11 saves for Clarkson.
RIT opens Empire 8 conference play on Saturday, September 24 when they travel to Utica College for a 12 p.m. start.
