RIT Loses to Elmira in Opening Game of E8 Tournament

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT softball dropped their first game of the 2005 Empire 8 Softball Tournament to #4 Elmira College, 2-1.

The Tigers fell behind 1-0 in the top of the third as the Soaring Eagles plated a run. In the bottom of the third Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/CBA) led off with a bloop single. Megan Varner (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free) (Apalachin, NY/Owego Free) sacrificed her down to second and Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg)  (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg)ripped a double off the fence, scoring Grenga and tying the game at 1-1.

The game would stay tied until the top of the sixth inning when Elmira's Abby Bennett scored on  a double by Sarah Slivinski giving the Soaring Eagles a 2-1 advantage.

Kelly D'Angelo shut the Tigers down the final two innings, picking up the win.

Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) took the loss for RIT. She went seven innigs, allowed one earned run, struck out seven and walked two.

The Tigers will face St. John Fisher in the elmination game at 2 p.m.
