Baseball Loses to Brockport in 10 Innings

ROCHESTER, NY -- The RIT (14-11) baseball team dropped a close ball game to Brockport State (23-15), 10-9 in 10 innings on Wednesday afternoon.

The Soaring Eagles took an early 5-2 lead off of RIT starter Nick Rappa (Fairport, NY/Fairport) (Fairport, NY/Fairport). He went 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight hits and five earned runs. Rappa struck out two and walked three.

RIT responded with four runs in the fourth inning, taking a 6-5 lead. Colin Bradley (Barre, VT/Spaulding) (Barre,VT/Spaulding) led off the inning with a double. He scored on an error by the left fielder off the bat of Brian Lindenau (Tucson, AZ/Sabino) (Tucson, AZ/Sabino). Rob Ogborne (Rochester, NY/Penfield) (Penfield, NY/Penfield) doubled in Lindenau off of Brockport starter Scott Ryan. He came into to score on a passed ball by Ryan. Matt Singer (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) (Honeoye Falls, NY/Honeoye Falls-Lima) scored when John Byrne (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) (E. Amherst, NY/Williamsville East) was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, giving RIT the 6-5 lead.

Brockport responded with three runs in the top of the fifth, re-taking the lead at 8-6. The big blow was a two-run double Tyler LeClair.

Affter the Golden Eagles took a 9-6 lead in the top of the seventh RIT responded with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, tying the score at 9-9. Mark Sapienza (Avon, NY/Avon) (Avon, NY/Avon) hit a two-run home run for the Tigers.

Each team had their chance to win the game in the eighth and ninth innings but were unable to plate a run. The Tigers best chance came in the bottom of the ninth. RIT loaded the bases with one out but Mark Singer popped out to short and Adam Gerentine (Poughkeepsie, NY/Marlboro) grounded to second to end the threat.

In the top of the 10th Brockport had runners on first and second with two outs when oe Lux hit a shot to third that scooted underneath Andy Scrogers glove, scoring John Morgan.

Brockport shut down the RIT bats in the bottom of the 10th 1-2-3 for the 10-9 win.

Rob Ogborne (Rochester, NY/Penfield) and Andy Scroger (Rochester, NY/Spencerport) each had three hits for RIT. Ogborne scored a pair of runs and drove in a run. Bran Lindenau went 2-3 with three runs scored and an RBI.
