BUFFALO, NY - The RIT Softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to host Buffalo State on Wednesday afternoon by scores of 7-0 and 6-0.
In game one, RIT was held to just five hits, by five different players. Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Seneca West, NY/West Seneca) fell to 2-3 on the season, allowing nine hits and six runs, four earned in just 4 1/3 innings of work. Amanda Morehouse (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) (Penn Yan, NY/Penn Yan Academy) allowed an unearned run in the final 1 2/3 innings.
For Buffalo State, Nicole Sirianni finished 3-for-4 with three runs runs scored, two singles and a triple. Nicole Sabuda was tremendous on the mound, allowing just five hits, while going the distance for the Bengals. The Buffalo State defense was flawless, fielding all 21 chances cleanly.
Buffalo State (14-2) earned the doubleheader sweep, blanking the Tigers 6-0 in the nightcap. Alyssia Brosius finished 3-for-4 with two runs scored. Sirianni and Sabuda each drove in two runs. Lauren Wright scattered six hits en route to the complete-game victory.
For RIT, Breana Sniezek (Lewisburg, PA/Lewisburg), Gretchen Goodhue (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (Sanford, ME/Sanford) and Katie Grenga (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) (Syracuse, NY/Christian Brothers Academy) had two hits apiece. Allie Sitton (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) allowed nine hits and three earned runs, while striking out seven in the loss.
RIT (5-7) opens its Empire 8 season on Saturday, as they host Alfred University in a doubleheader. The first pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
