ELMIRA, NY - The RIT Softball team (17-15, 8-2 Empire 8) earned a spilt with conference rival Elmira (11-9, 7-5 Empire 8), falling 2-1 in game one, but rebounding to win 4-1 in game two in doubleheader action on Tuesday at Eldridge Park.
In game one, Elmira pitcher Kelly D'Angelo was the story, striking out 16 RIT batters, while allowing just three hits. Tiger hurler Allie Sitton (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) (Baltimore, MD/The Park School) also pitched well, allowing just three hits and one earned run, striking out eight batters, but was unable to receive any offensive support.
RIT did take a 1-0 lead, as Nicole Taylor (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (Oswego, NY.Oswego) walked and stole home two batters later.
In game two, Mary Keegan (West Seneca, NY/West Seneca West) (West Senaca, NY/West Seneca West ) drove in two runs and was tremendous on the mound, throwing a one-hitter, striking out nine in the 4-1 win.
Caitlin Krumm (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) (Buffalo, NY/Williamsville North) scored twice, while Gretchen Goodhue (Sanford, ME/Sanford) (Sanford, ME/Sanford) and Taylor also scored for the Tigers.
RIT is back in action on Friday, as they host Hartwick in a doubleheader, starting at 3:30 p.m.
